The great fish-hook of Māui is called Manaiakalani, and it is baited with the wing of Hina's pet bird, the ʻalae. Māui is said to have created Hawaii's islands by tricking his brothers. He convinced them to take him out fishing, but caught his hook on the ocean floor. He told his brothers that he had caught a big fish and told them to paddle as hard as they could. His brothers paddled with all their might, and being intent with their effort, did not notice the island rising behind them. Māui repeated this trick several times, creating the Hawaiian Islands

Each Maui Hook is made of hand sanded hardwood plywood. After being sanded super smooth, the sign is hand painted and assembled. Three coats of clear coat enamel protects the sign for maximum life. A hanger is attached to the back to make hanging up your new wall art quick and easy.

We have also left space for you to customize this sign and really make it your own! Add your family name, bar name, favorite saying, or anything you would like. Each item is made to order. Please allow 7 to 10 days for the order to be prepared and shipped.

All of our products are handmade. Designed by us. Laser cut/engraved, then hand painted and assembled. No mass production here.

Because each item is MADE TO ORDER, the item can be duplicated, but keep in mind every board is distinct and each piece is hand painted/stained so the end results will be unique!

Will my order be exactly like the photo?

Well . . . . we try. Every board of wood is unique. Some are lighter, some are a little darker. Some seem to soak up color more than others. And, since each item is hand painted / stained, there may be differences from the listing photos. We do not mass produce these items and, as a result, each piece is unique.

Wood is a natural material. Variation in grain, texture and color are bound to occur. These photos are representative only and may not exactly match what you will see in real life

Please also note, that your screen may not match the colors of the item accurately.
